Sadly, my time at the Bronx Zoo and Re-Usable the Musical has come to a close. The summer entertaining NYC residents and educating them on recycling has been a real pleasure. But even though it is time to move on, through the wonders of modern technology the memories can live on forever! Here's a new demo video showing the many forms of puppetry I used during performances of Re-Usable the Musica l. Thanks to the Wildlife Conservation Society - Bronx Zoo for use of the footage, and Gables Grove Productions for creating such a wonderful show. "I will 'Remember' to make a difference!"

Cloud 雲 くも Kumo, a short film by Yvonne Ng, follows the lives of a Hiroshima survivor and her granddaughter. I was lucky enough to be a dancer in this stunning work of art. Through the work of an international cast and crew, the film traces the affects of the atomic bomb on generations. The grandmother is Hibakusha (received atomic bomb), Reiko is telling her grand mother's story through dance, and I play one of her dancers. The film now flies to Hiroshima to continue filming on location. We filmed all day yesterday here in NYC in scenes showing rehearsals, the dressing room, and of course the final performance of Reiko's tribute. While we wait the long wait for the film to be finished, here's a little photographic sneak peak from rehearsals as well as yesterday's shoot.

I'm happy to join with the Ronald McDonald House Foundation this June in NYC as part of their Musical Magic series.
Performing short concert and entertainment events in hospitals throughout the city, Musical Magic hopes to bring a little summertime fun to critically ill children. I'll be singin some tunes, stilt walking, puppeteering, and even doing a little magic along the way. Thank you for this opportunity to give back to the community RMH! From the imagination of John Tartaglia and his team at Gables Grove Productions, in conjunction with the Wildlife Conservation Society, we bring you Re-Usable the Musical. Join Kazumi, an everyday zoo going girl, on her journey around the world as she learns to protect the planet. Kazumi, like most people, begins her story unaware of the ever-growing environmental problem with disposable plastics. After tossing a leftover bag from lunch into the air it collides with Ronnie the Pelican, who then leads her on a wild ride across the globe to teach her about the 5 R's - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, &...well you'll just have to come see it! The Education/Outreach team at the Wildlife Conservation Society approached Gables Grove Productions after seeing how prominent the plastic problem had become right at home in the Bronx. The astonishing amount of facts included in the 30 minute show showcase just how large an effect humans have on the environment world-wide in ways we never even imagined, but also, shows very simple and practical solutions that everyday people can do. John Tartaglia did an amazing job writing an endearing, humourous, and enlightening script that the whole family can enjoy. And teaming up with Broadway veteran, Shannon Lewis, made for a fantastic directorial team. The music was written and directed by Gary Adler (Alter Boyz), with puppets by James Wojtal Jr. and Swazzle. I'm featured as Howard the Red River Hog and Pinchy the crab, as well as assisting in lots of other puppetry elements throughout the show. I am not only excited to perform with such a fantastic company of puppeteers, but I'm proud to be passing along such an important message. I have certainly learned new things and changed some habits when it comes to recycling after participating in this piece, and none of it is inconvenient or difficult to handle. I encourage everyone I know to see this beautiful little show. Re-Usable the Musical performs on the Wild Asia Stage at the Bronx Zoo from Memorial Day - Labor Day. Four performances a day- weekends in June, Wed-Sun in July & August. Contact me for dates I am scheduled to perform. Not everything revolves around performing. Sometimes you have to go out and stand up for what's right. 2015 was my fourth year participating in AIDS Walk NY, and my second year leading Team Mile High, dedicated to a good friend from Denver. It is always nice to return to this event for many reasons: 1) It's the largest grossing single day event fundraiser for AIDS foundations in the country. 2)It's an incredible show of support from the city and community towards a common goal. And 3) It's a personal cause as my best friend is one of the people who benefits from this research. Team Mile High rose to the occasion once again, with our team of 8 raising $445 in 2 weeks. It was a hot one out there this year, but without the stilts I must say it was still very manageable. I was so happy to see my team grow in numbers, and with so many new friends from my latest stint in Arizona both as participants and donors. We had a great time and I look forward to our continued expansion for years to come. Thank you for your continued support in making AIDS history. More good news! Just before "Sweet Charity" opened I joined the latest TYA show happening at Arizona Broadway Theatre - "Pinocchio", playing the little wooden boy himself! As stated on the ABT website, "First created by Italian writer Carlo Collodi, Pinocchio has come to life in countless movies, plays and musicals. In this latest adaptation, originally produced by the Seattle Children’s Theatre and the Children’s Theatre Company of Minneapolis, you and your students will experience the wonder and humor of classic children’s theatre at its best with ABT’s TYA production of Pinocchio." Under the hilarious and joyous direction of Andy Meyers, this cast of 5 tackled the show during the daylight hours while Sweet Charity was playing at night. And though we were always tired, wow did we have a great time. Playing at the theatre to huge crowds or popping up at local venues around town, Pinocchio ran from May 1-15. This beautiful little show was a big one for me as I continue to make TYA a more substantial part of my career. I was honored to play the title role, and so thrilled to see a theatre fully supporting the efforts of their children's productions. Thank you again Arizona Broadway Theatre, for making all of my Children's Theatre dreams come true. |
