I am officially allowed to announce some absolutely incredible news...
Starting early October I will be back on tour with: Jim Henson's "Dinosaur Train Live! - Buddy's Big Adventure" I'll be playing the role of the Conductor - a full size Troodon (rapter-like) dinosaur puppet that sings & dances, knows everything about the Mesozoic Era, and keeps everything going on the Dinosaur Train. And let me tell you, I've never been more excited for a job. Based on the PBS kids tv show, this brand new production is a creation of the Jim Henson Company, and I get to be a puppeteer!!! All the Puppets are being designed and created by the actual Henson Creature shop, and that's just the beginning. The show is being co-designed and directed by John Tartaglia! Yes, that John Tartaglia - star of Avenue Q, Shrek on broadway, and creator of ImaginOcean. The show is being built from scratch using all sorts of amazing puppetry techniques, special effects, and of course a real Dinosaur train. And just wait, there's more!!! We will be playing So many places where family/friends can come see this amazing production like Buffalo, Atlanta, Philly, Boston, the Count Basie theatre in NJ and...I can't believe this...New York City!!!!!!!!!!! More info on the show can be found at their official website: www.dinosaurtrainlive.com Check back for the most up to date schedule and news on the touring company. I'm so excited everyone. The little boy in me obsessed with the Fraggles who watched "The Dark Crystal" on endless repeat is floored by such a dream coming true. After the year I had I can't imagine a better way of starting over than the opportunity to work for such amazing people. Wish me Luck! I can't wait to see you on the road :)
I'm BACK!!!!
After an arduous winter of injury and rehabilitation I'm finally performing again, and showing off some new tricks to boot! Join me at the June "MuseIam" Variety Show, and watch as I welcome the summer season with a brand new Fire Spinning Act! NEW VIDEOS in the Media section! In my time off while recuperating I have been trying to find ways of staying productive. So, I finally got the chance to upload all of my demo material: 4 songs 2 monologues 1 dance And as a special preview, here's a short piece I created as part of my grad school audition...ENJOY! So, I spent monday night in the hospital... After a few hours of rehearsal for an upcoming show I thought I was totally fine. I had been attemping a new & very difficult maneuver which, after a few unsuccessful tries, I decided to forgo in the routine. So I rehearsed the rest of my act and eventually packed up to get some food. Little did I know something very serious was about to go wrong. As I sat at dinner my left quad(thigh) muscle started to stiffen up. I figured I was just getting sore from a long workout session and didn't think much of it. That is, until I tried to walk back to the studio and realized I wasn't going to get very far. After a half hour walk that should have taken me 10 minutes I knew things were looking pretty bad. I tried resting while my friends at the studio looked after me, but my leg seemed to keep getting worse instead of better. Before long my whole leg seemed to seize up like a rock, gradually contracting from my hip all the way to my knee, and leaving me in throbbing, excruitating pain. A pal said he would drive me home, but as soon as we got to my apt I realized I needed more help than simply sleeping it off. So, off we went to St.Luke's Hopsital. I spent the night there where doctors acted shocked at just how bad my leg had become (...very calming...) and put me on pain killers and muscle relaxers. Even after a few hours there my leg refused to let up, but as I was not in any life threatening danger I had to be released from emergency care. Once I got back to my apt, crutches in hand, I called my parents who came and whisked me back ot their house in NJ. My mother, being the super nurse that she is, along with my father have been taking very good care of me since and I've noticed immediate results. It will take a week or more to get back to normal, but at least things are improving. This means I am out of commission for a while. I was suppossed to open a new and exciting version of the Nutcracker this week; an original conceptualization using circus arts in place of ballet. The show would have been not only my aerial debut, but also my NYC debut. Alas, those dreams are on hold while I recover, however I do encourage everyone to see this beautiful show. It runs this weekend only (thurs-sun) at the House of Yes in Brooklyn. I may not be able to perform, but please support the wonderful people who had faith in a budding aerialist. The Info will be listed below. I know I will recover just fine, and for now I'll try and enjoy the rest and relaxation as best I can. Fom my parents' couch, ~Kirk The Nutcracker Circus Suite Vertical Aerial Arts presents the "Nutcracker Circus Suite" - an audience immersive and edgy new take on the classic tale. Aerial, circus, and dance combine and take place all around you as the story unfolds. Drinks, sweets, rats, snowflakes and ballerinas, the circus and the holiday season surround and astound the audience in this special event that adults and children are all sure to love. Come experience the Nutcracker in a whole new way. Concept, direction and choreography by Megan Hornaday and Jennifer Kovacs. Additional choreography by Sean Roschman. Starring Carolyn Barry, Stephanie Dodd, Megan Hornaday, Paul Hawxhurst, Yuki Ishiguro, Lily Jahn, Jennifer Kovacs, Nikki Nasto, Kaylee Olsen, Sean Roschman, and Shiho Tanaka. Hosted by the House of Yes. Costume collaboration with Kae Burke.
My new baby...meet FreakNstein! I am pleased to announce I will be performing in a Halloween Spectacular all October long. Come see me (or rather my performance) as the larger than life, fullbody monster puppet FreakNStein at the Forest of Fear! He's a crazy contraption that I'm so excited to work with and develop a lovely yet terrifying personality. The Forest of Fear is an after-dark haunted extravaganza located in Tuxedo, NY - literally right across the street from the NY Rennaisance Faire. The grounds include a critically acclaimed haunted house, a coffin ride, special guest star appearances, and two exciting shows. I get to man <<< this guy in a nightly brawl called "The Monster Smash" where ghouls, vampires, and all sorts of unsightly creatures battle it out to determine the fiercest haunt of them all. Plus, I get to walk amongst adoring fans and take lots pictures with terrified kiddos and annoying teenagers.
This month I am doing my very first gig as a background actor in a feature film! - "Noah", as in the story of the ark, the flood and all those animals. So many of my favourite fantasy creatives are involved. It is directed by Darren Aronofsky(Requiem for a Dream), with Russell Crowe playing the title character. Emma Watson (of Hermione fame) is also starring, as well as Jennifer Connolly(Labyrinth), Anthony Hopkins (I mean, duh!) and Logan Lerman(Percy Jackson). All of this info is out on IMDB.com, and the movie is scheduled to be released in 2014. Now my excitement to be an extra amidst what is sure to be hundreds of people may seem strange to some, but those who know me best know how much I love movies. So, getting the chance to be in an epic battle scene of a major motion picture is pretty darn cool. I spent my first day literally running through the forest in the rain. I was covered in both fake and real mud by the end of it, completely dripping from rain and sweat, and exhausted from a nice 15 hour day on two hours of sleep. But it didn't matter. It was so cool. We have a glorious week of rainy night shoots ahead of us for the big battle sequence. And I can't wait! I have to say, of all the jobs I do to pay the bills, this is a pretty neat experience. And hopefully, the first of many to come. I'm back from tour and back in business! This meant taking a cold hard look at this site and clearing some of the cobwebs: -Even more streamlined than before for a cleaner, easier read. -Seperate section for Resume/Press with new download feature. -Totally new page on Special Skills! And coming soon: A redesigned Gallery, tons of audio/video clips, and best of all... a New WEBSITE dedicated to all of my freelance entertainment ventures! That special skills page is just the tip of the iceberg, so get ready. PLUS, many new perfomances are in the works. Keep checking back for the latest scheduled events.
